secretly nerdy

My second ever stranded colorwork project was a gift hat for a snowboarding Star Wars fan. On the outside, it just looks like any other norwegian cap, knit up in maize and blue for this U of Michigan alum…

But on the inside, he’s a freakin Jedi Knight.

pattern: cobbled together with charts from www.jessica-tromp.nl and www.knitting-and.com/knitting/patterns/charts/starwars.htm
yarn: 2 skeins Louet Gems Opal, plus scraps of Dale Helio for the maize parts
needles: US#3 Bryspun 16″ circular

And a close-up of the hem, pre-blocking:

My second contribution to Larissa’s Meathead Knitalong

Behold! The Meta-Meathead! It’s four! four! four Meatheads in one!

And yet, note the dominance of a single grand, overarching Metameathead that encompasses and gives meaning to the smaller ones!

I am a huge nerd!

The little pink one is made from Jamieson’s Shetland Spindrift; the green ones are leftover sock yarn in Fearless Fibers‘ Marakesh colorway. Of course, the big one is Lamb’s Pride bulky.

I’ll need to add some fancy embroidery to tack the little puppies down. Not sure what that should look like, but I’m looking forward to buying some cheap-ass embroidery floss, instead of the fancy yarn I’ve been blowing the craft budget on lately!

my first meathead

I have made my first contribution to Larissa’s Meathead Knitalong. It only took about 90 minutes to knit up the hat, but quite a bit longer to decide on an embellishment. I started with some chocolate colored chenille, but the resulting crocheted flower looked like a furry turd.

So I found some lumpy, bumpy bulky burgundy yarn in my stash, which happened to have some of the same shade of hot pink as the hat. It’s not the most original of embellishments (I’m floored by the creativity and craziness of some of the KAL contributors!), but the I like how the different textures work together here: the fuzzy, but well-defined stitches of the hat; the bumpy unevenness of the crocheted flower; the smooth merino of the little leaf. It pleases me.
