ought to give Iowa a try!
Wow, thanks everyone for all the kind and generous responses to my whinging. I’m all touched and stuff!
Things are looking up here, too. I’m about to teach my last class of the semester (woo hoooooo!), and I just returned from a much-needed trip (to Iowa!) with the owner of Ramona Bananapants. Those 32 jampacked hours included a speeding ticket (not my ticket), a minor car accident (not my car), a drive-thru cookie shop (I know, right?), and a great deal of fun.
AND it turns out the prairie is gorgeous and amazing. Who knew?

you’ve got that song stuck in my head now! oh well. it looks like it was a fun trip, and a drive through cookie store sounds pretty awesome.

wide open spaces sure can be pretty. i’m going to the *beach* this weekend, though, so i may have you beat. but i’m not having nearly so rough a time lately.

I grew up in Iowa and have spent many an hour trying to convince people that it is more than just corn fields. As most of the people I’ve encountered have never been to Iowa or have just blown through on I-80, I’ve met with little success. In any case, I’m glad you had a good weekend.

I know, Iowa is weirdly pretty, and those Iowans are the NICEST people in America!!

gonna have to check it out for myself someday.

Beautiful photos! Glad to hear that you’re feeling better. So a drive-thru cookie shop you say? What a genius idea!

I’ve been giving Iowa a try my whole life… but I’m glad you enjoyed it!

Good to see you!
Iowa is very flat and very full of corn and very full of nice people. Gotta love every inch of that!

You went to Iowa for a vacation?
I live here, and, after looking at your pictures, I feel like I need to explore a little more… of course, I’ve only lived here a few years, so I don’t know the state really well yet, but I can tell you that living here is pretty durn boring.

Iowa? wow, who knew? i went through there as a kid, and i most definitely do NOT remember a drive thru cookie shop. that is lure enough to get me over there again!
Great collage - and great to see you! xo

Holy moo! Anywhere with drive thru cookies is somewhere I want to be! Your pictures are gorgeous, and I’m glad you’ve got your mojo back.
I’m from California, and my lone experience with the Midwest was that it was so much more beautiful than I’d expected. I may have to give Iowa a try some time. And hey, Iowa’s got the best writing program in the nation! That has to mean something.

I don’t think I had ever given Iowa that much thought really. It was just the state that was below Minnesota (where I’m from :D) and not even worth the a rivarly like Wisconsin
Beautiful pictures though!

Dang! I have lived in Iowa my whole life and you seem to have more fun here than I do.
May 6th, 2008 at 12:27 pm
Oh yeah, where is this drive-through for cookies?

Dude Pam,
I am de-lurking after months of reading your damn fine blog and looking at the awesome photos of your beautiful handiworks to say “blah on whoever made that snarky comment”. I don’t usually get “involved” in these types of internet (nasty comments) interactions, but come on! (in best Gob voice-if you were a Arrested Development fan). Glad you were able to catch a break from your busy life to Iowa. And I hope life slows down to your liking.
Cheers and thanks for the great writing and some of the best damn knitting (etc) in the blogosphere!

Loved the photo set, just the thing I needed to perk me up from my boring cubicle lunch (raining outside, too!). And somebody NEEDS to open up a drive-thru cookied shop here ASAP.

I love the light in those photos.

Flat? Maybe a swath through the middle. Just ask all the crazy people that ride RAGBRAI every year…
But I’ve gotta find me that drive-through cookie place!

I am just catching up with your blog, because…well, I have a job and kids and stuff, and I just wanted to say the following:
1. I am v. glad that things are looking up, and v. sorry that you were going through a rough patch. That sucks.
2. Blogs (and knitting for that matter) are for FUN. This is a GUILT-FREE ZONE!
3. I don’t care if you don’t post for months, or only post pictures of your weekly garbage. I’ll still come back.
4. Drive-thru cookie place? Excellent. Coffee, too?
5. Um, as vacay spots go, Cleveland is at least as fun as Iowa. Just an idea.

Just read your last post. Some folk are just jerks, and don’t realize you have a life apart from your blog. The rest of us have hooked up an rss feed so we know when to get excited that your back!

Wow, I worked at that cookie shop in high school. So weird! What were you doing in Spirit Lake?
