new free pattern! giant pom pom!
Thanks to all the folks who offered to test-knit. I’ve now got about a dozen people working hard, out of the goodness of their hearts, to make sure I get to start selling that mitten pattern at the beginning of the new year. People are so freaking nice.
In the meantime, I finally wrote up a tutorial for that little baby hat+mittens set I made earlier this year. Check it out on Ravelry, and on my Free Patterns page.

[wee leafy baby set]
Oh, and I made a hat! With a giant pom pom! Woo!

(Seriously, check out that pom. It is massive.)
pattern: Snowball Hat, by Kate Himmelberg

That’s a wicked big pom pom!
I love the little baby set, though, I love not having a baby small enough to fit them more

I think you look gorgeous with that hat. Pompoms look great on a wooly hat i think. Im male and 21 and i wear a wooly hat with a pompom pretty much all the time. Its freezing up here (i live in the shetlands isles) so i need a wooly hat to keep my heat in. i didnt used to like having a pompom when i was younger but i always wore them coz my sisters always knitted me a hat with a pompom (ive got 3 sisters so it would be a losing battle).

Hi Deidre,

you were delighted to read the blog? or were you delighted that a young male in his early 20’s wears a knitted hat with a pompom at the top without fail?
