It’s a Sweater. For a Dog.

Roscoe is a long haired chihuahua who lives in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Last winter was his first, and he spent it trembling, shivering, and staying out of the snow as much as possible.
So this year, his family asked me to make him a sweater.
pattern: Biscuits and Bones, from Paton’s
yarn: Nashua Creative Focus superwash
needles: US8 Addi Turbos

Super simple pattern, with wee sleeves and a tiny turtleneck.
It’s SO FREAKING CUTE I want to scream.

And talk about your functional handknits? When it’s time for a walk, Roscoe now fetches his own sweater, and plays happily outside, neck-deep in the snow.
Happy New Year!

awesome! isn’t it great to have your hard work appreciated by a furry animal? roscoe looks damn cute in it too!
January 2nd, 2008 at 12:12 am
too cute! now he just needs a little pair of felted paw booties to keep the snow out of his pads and he can frolic for hours!!!
January 2nd, 2008 at 12:16 am
Oh my gosh, it looks so good on him! I never believed in putting clothes on animals before, but I made a sweater for my Mom’s chihuahua and she seems to be so much warmer in it. I’ll have to look into this pattern for little Sashi.

Friggin’ adorable!! What a great way to start off the new year. Roscoe looks happy in his sweater.

I’ve always loved that Creative Focus yarn, and that’s got to be the most creative use I’ve ever seen it put to!

That is too cute - and an act of kindness for the little guy. Well done!!!
January 2nd, 2008 at 12:48 am

Too darned cute!
January 2nd, 2008 at 1:06 am
*sigh* I know hand knit sweaters for pets can seem eccentric but I admit that one of my dogs has a very functional sweater that he wears outside on really cold days. He has so little hair that he’s always shivering. I’m sure little Roscoe will be very happy this winter with his new sweater! BTW, I just love the t-neck - that’s too cute!!!
January 2nd, 2008 at 1:10 am

Hey, on behalf of myself and all other Kalamazoo residents, thank you for adding one more dog-in-a-sweater to our population. That is wonderful!!
January 2nd, 2008 at 2:01 am

Happy New Year to you and yours!

LOL over Carrie’s last comment!

That is so cute! I usually think dogs wearing clothing look a little silly…but I gotta say…that is dang cute. And he sure does seem to like it!

What a sweetie - I love it. That is just what my Sam needs!
January 2nd, 2008 at 3:03 pm
That is such a cute sweater. And how funny that he actually gets the sweater when it’s time to go outside. I always thought dogs and cats hate the feeling of something on them…
January 2nd, 2008 at 3:42 pm
oh my god, that’s adorable!!! happy new year!
January 2nd, 2008 at 4:29 pm
I don’t know why I find this post so funny. I think it’s the title. Roscue is, wihtout a doubt, the most fashionable chihuahua I have ever seen. Nice sweater. For a dog.
January 2nd, 2008 at 5:36 pm
Pamela, that is adorable. I have a little dog who gets cold outside too. I may have to add that to my queue!

January 2nd, 2008 at 6:27 pm

January 2nd, 2008 at 6:47 pm

I just know that if I made a sweater for my pups, they would eat it…
January 2nd, 2008 at 7:09 pm
The “bones” are adorable!!
January 2nd, 2008 at 11:36 pm
AWWWWW!!! Now I’m not a sweater dog kind of person, but to know that a dog could love a sweater just as much as a person could, it makes me wanna cry!
January 3rd, 2008 at 12:10 am
Wow, what a gorgeous dog coat. You are way nicer to your dog that I am to mine.
January 3rd, 2008 at 12:32 am
Oh how adorable, and he is very clever to know to put on handknits before venturing out into the cold. Even my kids dont do that.
January 3rd, 2008 at 1:07 am
Very very cute!!
Happy New Year Pam!!
