The Craftiest Night of the Year

Spent the weekend in Chicago, recording some new songs for the band. When this photo was taken, we’d been in the studio for three days, with no shower. Seriously, be happy you don’t have smell-o-vision.

But today? Today was the day before Halloween, which is by far my most favorite of all holidays. So I ignored all other deadlines (academic, professional, personal, crafty — and there were a lot of ‘em), put duty aside, and spent 8 straight hours working on my costume.

And I loved every minute of it.

No photos of the finished product til tomorrow, but click here for a hint about what it is.

And in the meantime, I’ll try to distract you with a pretty picture of the leaves and litter in my back yard.

  1. Awesome! My sister in crafty procrastination–I looked just like you putting together my submission–splayed on the floor with supplies scattered all around me. Happy!

And three showerless days…hat off, lady, I would go insane.

  2. Very impressive! I can understand the all-consuming drive to finish a project. Usually for me that happens with quilts, though. I’ve never been very big into Halloween (just the chocolate, yum!).

  3. I’m looking forward to seeing the results of your day of costume couture! Happy Halloween!

  4. When i saw your halloween crafting pic on flickr i got so excited and actually for a [split] second was sad that we don’t really have halloween here in Australia. The holiday is not really on the calendar so to speak. There are some festivities in some parts of the country and [cough*pesky*cough] kids do come a knockin, but i generally pretend that i am not home. Grouch that i am.
I did say the thought only lasted a split second…

  5. Happy Halloween, dear Pam! I hope it is a great one! :) xo

  6. Ha! That should be hilarious! Can’t wait to see the finished costume!

  11. Dude, that’s awesome. In grad school there was a Lebowski-themed Halloween party one year, and a good friend went as Maude in Viking gear. Can’t wait to see your version!

  12. I have to come out of lurking to say awesome! And, if you happen to have a Lebowskifest near you, you’ll have it ready for another wearing.

  13. I love Big Lebowski! It’s one of my favourite films of all time. Can’t wait to see you in the costume. Happy Halloween!

  14. I love the Dude, thanks for reminding me of that!

  15. Oh, that is Mr. Frick’s very favorite movie (after Raising Arizona of course). That rug really tied the room together!

By the way, I owe you a BIG HUGE THANK YOU. That package was incredible. I second your thoughts on the yarn. WTF? I will try to do it…justice. The t-shirt is amazing and totally perked up Mr. Frick’s bad day. Seriously rockin’.

  16. Any costume that involves power tools has got to be way cool! Can’t wait to see it…

  22. Haha — I’m going as the same thing! I laughed when I saw your picture, since that’s exactly what I’ve looked like for a few days — surrounded by gold fabric and spray paint. I can’t wait to see how yours turns out!

  23. That costume will blow all other costumes out of the water!! Can’t wait to see pics.

  24. Ooohhh….can’t wait to see what it is! Happy Halloween!

  25. I am generally not into the whole Halloween thing, (this is changing due to the presence of the kid, of course, seems like a rule of some sort); but, if I were going to a BL-themed party, I could definitely be convinced to partake in the costumery fun. Just sayin’.
