falling

The 90-degree heat wave broke last night, and was followed by a perfect, crisp autumn morning.
This is also the season of Midterms, and I have a lot of them to grade. Even so, my Autumn Aran sock is, slowly, coming together.

That photo with the coffee is amazing. The composition is beautiful. Clearly, it was taken by a talented photographer! The socks are looking good too!

There is nothing quite like those first few crisp fall mornings.
I’m looking forward to seeing the completed Autumn Aran Socks. It is a fabulous design.
October 11th, 2007 at 3:19 am
Lovely socks and the photo on top is fabulous. Do I see a gorilla-pod in the reflection?
Funny what a difference a day makes in the world of weather.
October 11th, 2007 at 3:20 am
your socks are coming along just great!
and wonderful pic, btw. fabulous composition and colors.
October 11th, 2007 at 3:34 am

I’m so jealous of anyone who is experiencing fall right now.
October 11th, 2007 at 4:12 am

Lovely sock.
October 11th, 2007 at 1:19 pm

October 11th, 2007 at 2:02 pm
Love it. The texture is wonderful!
Coffee and falling leaves with fingerless mitts - a perfect knitters morning!
October 11th, 2007 at 2:49 pm
Beautiful! The Koigu was the right choice, huh? (Side note — I’m so glad that the program I’m in has very few, if any, midterm exams for its grad students! 4 classes so far, and no midterms…)
October 11th, 2007 at 3:20 pm
Mnnnn…fall. Time for fingerless mitts. I adore that top picture! And your sockie is gorgeous.
October 11th, 2007 at 3:23 pm
The sock is gorgeous. The perfect autumn sock. Love the pattern, love the color.
As much as I wanted it to cool off a little, this 40 degree sudden drop in temperature is a bit shocking. Bring on the woolens!
October 11th, 2007 at 3:39 pm
I love the photograph at the top, perfect fall imagery there. And that sock looks fantastic! You did a great job with it!
October 11th, 2007 at 5:25 pm
Love that photo, it really has me in the mood for Fall. Makes me think I should be drinking my coffee outside, instead of in front of the comp
October 11th, 2007 at 6:14 pm
That sock is a little piece of autumn heaven. So lovely.
October 11th, 2007 at 6:22 pm
Kniiiiiiiiiiiit wriiiiiiiistwarmers. WrIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIstwarmers.
Everybody should have a new pair in the fall. It’s almost better than new school shoes.
October 11th, 2007 at 6:23 pm
That comment makes no sense here. I wrote it after seeing the flickr caption and it totally didn’t click that the caption wasn’t on your blog. Oops.
October 11th, 2007 at 6:52 pm
Yep. I hear you. Midterms are here. Ugh. However, those leafs and warm drink in the first photo make it all seem not so bad, after all. So thanks for sharing–
October 11th, 2007 at 6:57 pm
OH MY FREAKING GOD. I sooooo did NOT just write “leafs,” in my comment, did I? I’m dying of embarrassment now, but I TOTALLY blame the 70 freshman/sophomore essays that I’m in the middle of grading. Yeah, that’s it. It’s all their fault.
*Ahem* *Cough*
Let it be known that I know that the plural of “leaf” is “leaves.”
*Ahem* *Cough*

I am so in love with the acorn and oak leaf pattern - I NEED to knit it (but maybe not in socks - they look great but I suppose not entirely practical for wearing with shoes). Love your fall photo by the way.
October 11th, 2007 at 7:13 pm
I just love that top photo - perfect composition and saturation of colors. The sock rocks too
October 11th, 2007 at 7:26 pm
Ah, midterms. I actually have a final next week (8 week intensive class)–ugh!
I love that sock so frakking much. I hope you will share the pattern! Such a great combo–that yarn with the cabley goodness.
October 11th, 2007 at 8:48 pm
I love that self portrait!
The sock is looking really beautiful
October 11th, 2007 at 10:24 pm
I was just in MI for business. I went to bed & woke freezing. I love a good chill when I have a sweater! Not a one in my bag!!
Beautiful sock. Looks great in that color.
October 11th, 2007 at 10:40 pm
ohhh, so jealous! i woke up this morning and it was 66 degrees…not exactly crisp, but i’ll take it. love the sock!
October 11th, 2007 at 10:50 pm
Finally—some fall weather! Break out the handknits!!
October 11th, 2007 at 11:24 pm
The socks are so beautiful. Today was lovely here as well. Hopefully, it continues this way. Knitters of the world, rejoice and grab your wool!
October 12th, 2007 at 2:38 am
We finally had our first fall morning. Unfortunately it was rainy and gray, not sunny and cool and crisp. Even so, I was so happy to finally slip my sock-clad feet into my clogs for the first time in months. It is just wrong to crunch through leaves in flip flops.
October 12th, 2007 at 3:23 am
I was SO excited to be wearing a sweater today. I’m happy I’m not the only one who welcomed the change in the weather!
October 12th, 2007 at 3:00 pm
Love the socks! Wow.
October 12th, 2007 at 5:30 pm

October 12th, 2007 at 8:13 pm

October 12th, 2007 at 8:42 pm
Finally broke for us too; isn’t it great?!? I had on a wool 3/4 sleeve sweater and wool socks today~~heaven!
October 12th, 2007 at 10:05 pm
Yep, it’s chilly fall here too. That photo is just lovely.
October 12th, 2007 at 11:19 pm
Lovely sock! But I covet those fingerless gloves.
October 12th, 2007 at 11:23 pm
Oh my — I love the photo on top!
Everything in this entry is SO LOVELY!
October 13th, 2007 at 6:17 am
That sock is pretty and I love that first picture! Yay for autumn mornings!
October 13th, 2007 at 10:27 am
Lovely! Fantastic color too!
October 13th, 2007 at 5:10 pm
That picture is lovely; makes me almost long for autumn. Almost. Here we are having boiling hot days interspersed with torrential rain. OK, boiling by British standards, but still.
Can’t wait to see your autumn aran socks finished! They look squilicious xx
October 14th, 2007 at 12:09 am
great perspective on the photo - nice way to capture the feel of autumn. Congrats on the article too, very cool.
October 14th, 2007 at 1:38 am

October 14th, 2007 at 5:31 pm
Coffee, leaves, socks. Bliss.
October 15th, 2007 at 3:54 am
What a lovely way to spend a morning - I’m so happy fall has finally arrived, I was beginning to think it would never arrive!
October 15th, 2007 at 7:01 pm
Man, I really do love that photo, great composition - but I still can’t help giggling at the thought of you with that gorillapod on your head
Sock looks great!
October 18th, 2007 at 2:54 am
A color festival–love that photo! PLEASE tell me what that purple yarn is you used for your mitts! Don’t know how I got to your blog but am glad I did.
