Baby! Monkey! Kitty!
First of all, thanks for all the great comments on the last few posts. It’s been a crazy couple of weeks, work and life-wise, so I wasn’t able to respond to everybody. But thanks!
My sister had a giant 9-pound baby on June 22 — I’m an Auntie! Baby Claire is already wearing the 3-month-old sizes, so it’s apparently a good thing I was so negligent with the gift-knitting. She may even have outgrown the Baby Surprise by the time Fall weather arrives.
Ooh, and check out the first of two Monkeys for my Sockapalooza pal.
My pal requested both “crazy colors” and “lacy patterns.” Thanks to everyone who weighed in with pattern suggestions for this lovely yarn — when Cookie herself suggested Monkey, who was I to disagree?
That bit of pooling on the sole was the only thing that made this yarn anything less than heavenly to work with. Do you think my pal will mind it? Would you?
(And, speaking of socks, have you seen Domesticat’s Drunken Bee socks? I love them. So much.)
But Monkey is about the only knitting I’ve gotten done with all the business and craziness and travel and whatnot. Usually, Wilma the Cat, Queen of Placidity, keeps us sane and calm.

Congrats on the kid.
and those socks are mad cool.

Yay! Being an auntie rules–you can go briefly experience the cute and then go away again, avoiding the bulk of the diapering and food-flinging and crying.
I think the sole-pooling is fine. I mean, it’s on the sole. No one will ever see it.
June 27th, 2007 at 8:29 pm
Yay for cool aunties!
I feel like Wilma is laughing at me…
June 27th, 2007 at 8:37 pm
Congrats! My auntie was highly influential, she taught me about lipstick, snacking in bed and hair bands!
The fabric gets oddly crunchy with washing…but you know what…it’s probably because I skip the dryer. Duh! Thanks for helping me figure that out.
June 27th, 2007 at 9:36 pm
congrats on your new aunt-status! no, the sole pooling (sounds like a band name…) doesn’t bother me at all, but then I have a high tolerance for pooling. your cat’s lack of nose-come-out-ness cracks me up. she’s adorable!!!
June 27th, 2007 at 9:45 pm
One of my daughters is named Claire! Congratulations…I am jealous because although I have four kids of my own, I am STILL not an aunt!
I LOVE the socks, and if she doesn’t like it you can feel free to send it to me!
June 27th, 2007 at 9:52 pm
Congratulations, Auntie!
(Love that cat!)
June 27th, 2007 at 9:56 pm
Congrats! I’ve learned with my great-nephew to always knit on the big side - they will always grow into it sooner or later!
Beautiful Monkey! And yeah - when the designer herself steps up with a suggestions - it’s a pretty safge bet. That’s cool that she weighed in.
Love your kitty pictures.
Still coming to LA?
June 27th, 2007 at 10:01 pm
the socks are great! it’s funny, if i were knitting those and saw that pooling, i’d probably rip the thing out. but pooling in other people’s socks don’t bother me NEARLY as much as pooling mine. i like that photo of your cat sticking it’s tongue out. so pink!
June 27th, 2007 at 10:28 pm
Congrats! Being an auntie rocks.
I think the socks look great - and the pooling is part of that.
Hee hee - Wilma’s picture and Mayhem’s picture today have some similarities.

June 27th, 2007 at 11:03 pm

Love the monkey! All the cool kids are knitting them! :0)
June 27th, 2007 at 11:22 pm
Congrats to you and your family!
The Monkey looks great–pooling and all! Normally I’m not a fan of variegated yarn with lace patterns, but the combo you have seems to work!
June 27th, 2007 at 11:32 pm
I love the monkey sock!! I think your pal will absolutely love it. I have Monkey’s on the brain but not on the needles yet…I haven’t decided on a yarn yet.
Congrats on being an auntie!!!
June 27th, 2007 at 11:56 pm
I hope you realize your obligations as an aunt entail being a terrible influence on the child, it’s your prerogative!
I love the fact that your cast goes from place to extremely maniacal in 2.2 seconds…
June 28th, 2007 at 1:19 am
That’s a great picture of your kitty. So funny!
June 28th, 2007 at 1:37 am
Yay for sweet, new fat babies!
And the Monkeys turned out great! Your pal will heart them.
June 28th, 2007 at 2:38 am
Great Monkey. As someone who gets very easily annoyed at pooling….that little pooling on the sole would not even anny me.
And Congrats.
June 28th, 2007 at 2:57 am
Congratulations, Auntie Pam!
The pooling would not bother me at all … the sock is gorgeous!
June 28th, 2007 at 3:17 am
Congrats Aunt!! And of course Congrats to the new mom!!
LOVE the socks for your pal-especially the yarn-monkey’s were perfect for it!
June 28th, 2007 at 6:01 am
Your pal is very lucky. Unlike my pal - I still haven’t got the yarn/pattern for her socks. AND I really need to get my sock mojo back .
June 28th, 2007 at 6:06 am
congrats on being an auntie! and oh my gosh, your cat is so cute. i love that face she’s making in the second picture!
June 28th, 2007 at 8:42 am
Love your Monkeys!!! The pooling looks fantastic, I’m SURE your pal will love it!
June 28th, 2007 at 12:36 pm
Congrats on your little baby niece! I love your monkeys - great pattern for that yarn. Hilarious pic of the cat, too. Why is taking animal pictures so much fun?
June 28th, 2007 at 12:51 pm
it looks fantastic! i think you met your pal’s criteria for sure!
your cat is adorable - love the big fuzzyness!
June 28th, 2007 at 2:21 pm
Congrats on becoming an Auntie! Aren’t 9 lbs. babies the cutest?
Great job on the Monkey socks. Your pal will love them.
June 28th, 2007 at 3:38 pm
Those socks are awesome New Auntie! Nice knitting and lovely colorway.
June 28th, 2007 at 3:44 pm
The sock looks great! Don’t worry about the pooling– it’s fine on the sole

Congrats on being an aunt! Enjoy it
June 28th, 2007 at 4:24 pm
Congratulations on the arrival of Claire, your own, personal designated knitting recipient! So much fun to have someone beautiful to model your incredible creations. Nice work on the Monkeys too.
June 28th, 2007 at 4:51 pm
Congratulations Auntie P!!!
June 28th, 2007 at 7:39 pm
Hooray for aunthood! I’m jealous cause my sister keeps threatening to never have children, and Ashley is so right about how cuteness - responsibility = awesome.
As for pooling? I hate pooling more than most, I think, and I still woulnd’t really mind what you’ve got going on there. It’s pretty small, and it’ll be hidden.
June 28th, 2007 at 8:20 pm
Love the color of your monkey!! And that little bit of pooling wouldn’t bother me in the least. Gorgeous.
June 28th, 2007 at 8:59 pm
love love love the colorway! and that pooling wouldn’t bother me in the least — i’m sure your pal’s socks will be knocked off by these monkies!
June 28th, 2007 at 10:48 pm
congratulations, auntie! i just became an aunt again, too, for the second time…and my niece’s name is Clara. Great name no matter what the language, huh? BTW, that’s a very pretty Monkey.
June 29th, 2007 at 12:07 am
Congratulations, titi!
Awesome Monkeys. She’s going to flip.
June 29th, 2007 at 1:19 am
Congrats on being an Auntie! I realize opinions about pooling very, but your Sockapalooza pal would be nuts to not fall in love with this sock — it’s gorgeous! I love the yarn with this pattern.
June 29th, 2007 at 3:22 am
Congrats to your sis! 9lb baby makes me wince.
June 29th, 2007 at 4:03 am
Congratulations to your sister and to you for becoming an Auntie (I think you had the easier part)!
The Monkey sock looks great! I think the pooling is fine, but I am not often upset by pooling.
Domesticat’s Drunken Bee socks are amazing. I want to knit them badly. I hope after she moves she’ll write up a pattern or recipe.
June 29th, 2007 at 4:12 pm
Congratulations, Auntie Flint Knits! Time to start churning out more adorable baby duds.
I wouldn’t mind the pooling on the Monkey socks. It really isn’t bad at all, as pooling goes. I’m sure your pal will love them.
