marigold socks!

The flower photos belong to other Flickr folks. Please click for details.

Stayed up last night to finish these, listening to music and munching on popcorn in bed. Is there anything better?

The pattern was really inspired by the yarn (Fleece Artist merino sock in Saffron), which brought to mind the marigolds in my family’s old garden — as a kid, pulling out the seeds in the Fall (to be planted again the following Spring) was one of my favorite household chores.

I also love that this color evokes both Spring (see above) and Fall (see below),
my two favorite seasons.

And the pattern is on its way — my first sock pattern! Terribly exciting.

  31. love the socks & the yarn - great project. Enjoy!

  32. Oh my god, that’s the best photo collage I’ve seen in ages. When did I become so mad about orange? Is this one of those things where I think it’s just me and my unique preferences, but in fact everyone in the world loves orange now and I’m just a victim of fashion brainwashing (again)? Like when everyone thinks they’re being original in naming their kid Madison or something (oh god, I hope your kid’s not named Madison — it’s a very nice name), but then suddenly every kid in her class is named Madison? How the heck did I get on this tangent?

Your socks are glorious, and congratulations on your first pattern?

  33. I LOVE the socks! So beautiful!

  34. oooh gorgeous. have you tried marigold petals in salad? add after dressing, and those golden shards against the deep green leaves. your socks are stunning, love the ruffly fluffly petal pattern.

I got my Soy Silk yarn! Thank you for such a pretty litle pick-me-up, the chocolate was crammed into my mouth like I was Charlie Bucket or something.

  49. I have just been the lucky recipient of the same yarn from Pam in a swap, and it really is the cheeriest thing to receive on a grey day - not to mention the chocolate that came with it! It is not a colourway I wear but I am going to enjoy knitting it up for a friend so much that I’m not going to want to part with the finished socks. I love the Marigold sock pattern too, BTW.
